Ancient city of Shibam declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. Dubbed the Manhattan of the desert, Shibam is famous for its skyscrapers of clay-and-straw bricks that often reach up to eight floors high. Old Shibam, protected by UNESCO since 1982.
